How royal battles affect the industry of games
A few years ago, MMORPG was the most popular genre, then the relay race passed to Moba (Dota 2, League of Legends), now the championship with royal battles. By the way, Moba had a strong influence on the development of e -sports.
If you think that the “battles” are already tired of everyone, and the developers who produce this mode are fools, I will give statistics from Google Trends which shows how often users of the network are looking for royal battles.
Now among gamers the opinion is that Battle Royale, like multi -user games as a whole, affect the industry negatively. Others see nothing bad in them and simply enjoy the relatively new regime. Nevertheless, like any trend, royal battles have a serious impact on the industry. This will be the blog about this.
The occurrence of Battle Royale
Battle Royale appeared thanks to the Japanese novel of the same name, which was published back in 1999. According to his plot, a group of schoolchildren had to fight for survival until someone left left. The original source itself is not known to anyone. The film adaptation, shot in 2000, attracted much more attention. One of the main roles there was played by the famous Japanese actor Takeshi Kitano.
But the most famous “film adaptation” of the regime was a series of books, and then films, hunger games popular among teenagers. It is here that the essence of the royal battle is most clearly shown – to survive, fighting in the arena.
In the film and books industry, the idea of “royal battles” did not last long, but in games she produced a real splash.
Battle Royale in games
If with the history of the origin of the royal games it is more or less clear, then it is time to understand – in which game he appeared for the first time. In 2012, the idea was implemented in fashion for Minecraft, therefore it is believed that it was the Antvenom and SkydoESMINCRAFT modders, and laid the foundation for the development of the genre. After that, similar modifications appeared in other online games, like Arma.
By the way, the first film from the series Hunger Games was released in 2012. Another argument in favor of the fact that it was thanks to its release that the idea received a “mass” distribution.
Brendan Green, known under the nickname Playerunknown, took part in creating the BR Fashion for Minecraft. After he joined the Korean company Bluehole and the famous Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds was released. Or just PUBG, which is considered the first “full -fledged” royal battle. Nickname Modder also explains the name of the game.
Battle Royale to Battle Royale
Everything new is well forgotten old. Therefore, back to the past. The rudiments of the royal battle can be found in other modes (for example, in Deathmatch, FFA and Last Man Standing).
If you know a series noaccount-casinos.co.uk/ of Flatout races, you are probably familiar with the funny derby regime. Its essence is simple, you choose a car and “fight” with other drivers in the arena. Each player has a strip of health. The more often you encounter other drivers, the lower it lowers.
There is only one winner here and your task is to survive. Flatout 2 came out (which is presented by the derby mode from the video) in 2006, 6 years before creating the Battle Royale modification in Minecraft. I am sure that if you delve into, you can recall other examples.
The derby mode is difficult to attribute to Deathmatch, because the standings here plays not the most important role and defines the winner only if several cars will remain by the end of the match “alive”. That is why I believe that the derby mode is more like Battle Royale.
The popularization of royal battles
If earlier the trend was Moba in the person of Dota 2 (which was then supplanted by Lol), today the championship belongs to royal battles.
For comparison, in 2016 the peak value of regular Dota 2 players was in the region of 1.291.328 people. And after six months later (in September), PUBG managed to beat this record – with a peak value of 1.348.374 people. In January 2018, their number even amounted to incredible 3.236.027 players.
It is logical that the developers wanted to repeat the incredible success of Pubg. The easiest way was to add a special mode to an existing game, in addition to the usual PVP.
If you take into account that PUBG appeared in Steam at the early access stage and immediately became famous for a huge number of bugs (some have not been able to get rid of it, and the developers created a site on which they report for each fix in front of the players), then potential competitors had every chance of success for success.
So, shortly after Pubg, Fortnite Battle Royale appeared. The original Fortnite is a cooperative sandbox for survival with the open world, where you can collect resources, build and strengthen buildings, fight off from hordes of zombies. It came out in July 2017 and on September 26, Epic Games introduced Fortnite Battle Royale. Initially, the regime was recreated in the original Fortnite, but after its success it was decided to release a separate version of the game.
Despite the fact that PUBG was the first full -fledged royal battle, now she is losing ground in front of Fortnite, not to mention the emergence of the BR regime in other games. Which also affects the outflow of players from PUBG.
The way Fortnite is ahead of PUBG today is very reminiscent of the situation with Dota 2 and League of Legends.
Influence Battle Royale on Industry
Today, Battle Royale appears in almost all multiplayer games. Basically, developers add royal battle as an additional regime. This is very convenient, because in fact, nothing changes in the original game, but on the contrary, additional content appears. A win -win option.
The popularity of Battle Royale also contributed to the emergence of a huge number of parodies. Most of it can be found on Steam. Which, in principle, is not surprising, given the passion of indie developers to “parasitization” on popular trends. And although many believe that Steam suffers from Indie Through, the appearance of such parodies has a strong effect on the industry in general. Developers offer new mechanics, unusual approaches to the games in general.
Among the most popular parodies on BR can be called Totally Accurate Battlegrounds, Cuisine Royale and Hentai Battle Royale (now the Steam page is not available). The first is characterized by a hypertrophied physical model: when it enters the enemy, he flies over a great distance, and the return of a sniper rifle can remove from balance and the shooter itself. In Cuisine Royale, in addition to the usual equipment, you can use kitchen utensils. With the latter, I think, everything is clear.
Did not bypass Battle Royale and the domestic publisher Mail.Ru, who created the “Generator Batle Royale”. Apparently, its creation was dedicated to updating a similar mode in Warface. The average duration of the match in the shooter is only a few minutes, which provokes players on the action, preventing them from casting, like in PUBG or Fortnite.
Battle Royale also appeared in the recently released Call of Duty: Black Ops 4. Here the main feature of the regime is that, unlike the same PUBG (which the players are remembered by a huge number of bugs), it is most polished. What proves once again: the developers understand that gamers are interested in this regime and they are ready to work on it.
Conclusion
To argue with the popularity of royal battles is useless. Most likely, over time, a new trend will appear, which will displace from the Battle Royale arena. But BR has already left a noticeable mark in the industry.
Call of Duty: Black OPS 4 showed that in the new shooters the presence of the Royal Battle mode is a prerequisite, as well as a more traditional PVP. It is possible that the Battle Royale will replace the usual Deathmatch or the “capture of the flag”.
But there is another option for developing events: Battle Royale will be modified and as a result we will receive a new multiplayer regime in a sovereign. The only thing I think is impossible is that Battle Royale will be lost without a trace.
